Chianti

This fine Chianti is produced by the Castellani brothers in Tuscany. Roberto and Pier Giorgio Castellani have been producing wine for many years. You might liken them to the Gallo brothers. One brother is responsible for the production of the wines and the other handles the administrative chores. These two polite Tuscan gentlemen combine their talents to form an unbeatable team. The operation is one of the biggest in the Chianti region

Grosso Sanese originates in a vineyard covering about two hectares next to the estate headquarters. The fairly compact lime-based soil is composed mainly of alberese and galestro. The vines are pruned according to the spurred cordon method, leaving a maximum of six buds. Production is limited to 5,000 to 6,000 liters per hectare (2.5 acres), for a total production of about 10,000 bottles per year. Fermentation takes place in 5,000-liter oak barrels. The wine is refined in barriques made of Alliers oak, thirty percent of which are replaced each year. Here it stays for eighteen months, before the final blending and bottling. The wine then ages in the bottle for another six months before being released for sale.

A true Tuscan, crafted from organically farmed Sangiovese Piccolo grapes, enhanced with a blend of organic Cabernet Sauvignon & Colorino grapes. Sangiovese cement aged for 12 months. Cabernet & Ancellotta aged in new French oak casks for 12 months. The varietals were blended, bottled and aged six months before release.
